Home with the Goods!!!
So yesterday I went to make dinner and realized that we did NOT have any Cream of Chicken Soup in the house. I did not want to change my recipe, did not want to go to the store, and sooooo, I decided that my girls were capable of managing KROGER without me . I know, go ahead laugh out loud.. Suddenly they are capable because I do not feel like going to the store. What can I say?? Some days you just don't feel like getting ready and heading out.. Two little girls in the grocery store to get a couple of things how bad could it be??
Let me say they were "OVER THE MOON", "THRILLED", ECSTATIC to do this little job I had for them. Truly I am not sure how they contained themselves for the 4 minute ride to KROGER..
The list
Pack of soda
2 cans of Cream of Chicken
Bag of Russett Potatoes
Shredded bag of Monterey Jack Cheese..
I gave them the list, $20 and a pep talk.. YES they got a pep talk. I told them to grab the small cart and not the big one. I then asked them questions on where and what they would look for first. They did really good. They knew that the soda I bought was in the entry, the vegetable section came next and that the cheese would be found in the dairy section. I told them to read the little signs on the aisle so they would know where the SOUP was..
They were only gone a few minutes when I got a phone call. I thought " Seriously???? How hard is it to get a few items?? They have been shopping with me since the day they were born. When I answered Makenna said.. "Hi mom it's me" ... "YES," I said.. She then surprised me by saying.. " when I was cleaning earlier today I realized we were out of paper towels.. would you like me to pick a roll up??" .. "absolutely, good thinking" I said. I then thought to myself.. Woo Hoo!! Not only is she shopping but thinking of other things we need. I cannot tell you how I went from being slightly frustrated at getting a call, to over the moon PROUD!!
I then waited and watched for them to come out of Kroger. I saw them standing at the entry looking for our car. I beeped the horn and they came running.. ( thankfully looking both ways before they ran across.) When they saw me they said.. "It went great except we were short"..SHORT I thought...HOW??? When I glanced in the cart I knew immediately. They had grabbed an eight pack of BOUNTY paper towels as opposed to a roll of paper towels.. I had to laugh!!!! I said how much do you need?? We don't need any money mama..the man gave it to us because we were kids.. (THANK YOU kind person at Kroger). Wouldn't it be great if that was the way it worked for me I thought..
I sent them back with the seventy nine cents they were short and told them to thank the man. When they came back the second time, I think they had even bigger smiles on their faces than before, if that was possible. We talked about the shopping experience and I told them how proud I was of them.
Honestly, the whole thing makes me laugh..Normally John or I would have gone to the store. However, because he was busy and I didn't feel like getting dressed the girls got to have a "KROGERING EXPERIENCE" they will not soon forget.
Desperate times call for deserpate measures - all's well that ends well .. . hmmm are there any other cliches I can think of? Good job GreeneTeam Girls!
ReplyDeleteThey had the best time.. I told Makenna that today we were going to head out to get some snacks for the sleepover and she said.."Can we go to the bank first?" I was like what does the bank have to do with the sleepover and snacks?? She said because if we have cash Maddie and I can do the shopping.. :) Imagine the SNACKS they would come home with!! :)
