This past Thursday the kids and I headed to Providence Canyon in Lumpkin, Georgia. It is known as Georgia's Little Grand Canyon. Definitely a cool place to see!!
We arrived midday so it was pretty hot. We hiked the .25 miles to the first flat spot in the canyon. From here you can take trails that lead to the other canyons. There are 16 canyons in all. The canyons cover around 300 acres and the park is around 1,100 acres. We decided not to hike any further as we were in flip flops, had no water, and it was in the heat of the day. Call me crazy but I thought it was best to head back up, grab some water and a picnic and see the views from the top.
There are many views of the canyons without hiking down into them. We found the best views to be all along the picnic areas. You can walk around and there are little alcoves to stand and see the view. The kids thought it was beautiful. While you cannot see down into the full depth of the canyons due to Kudzu and trees it is still an amazing site to see. The colors are gorgeous..they say there are 43 different colors of sand.
I am glad that we experienced Georgia's Little Grand Canyon. Truly one of Georgia's Natural Wonders!! :)
I think that was a good call. No need to get in trouble on the trails without the right shoes and supplies.
ReplyDeleteLOL.. Yes I think most would have considered it child abuse!! Not to mention the Greeneteam wouldn't have made it very far without snacks and drinks.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun!!
