Spring Theme Party Decorations, food, and crafts

Maddies Spring Theme Party was lots of fun!!

Below was our menu:

  • Spring flower sandwiches (PB&J, and Ham & Cheese)
  • Fruit (grapes, cantaloupe, and strawberries)
  • Chips (Sun chips, and Bugles .. Maddies Favorites)
  • Vege tray (carrots, cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes)
  • Frog and Ladybug cupcakes/vanilla icecream
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies

The sandwiches were easy to make. I used a flower shaped cookie cutter to cut out the white bread. Then for the top flower shape I used an apple corer to make a small hole for the center of the flower. On the PB&J the jelly was the center and on the ham and cheese the orange cheese made the center. The girls all loved them!! I believe I found this idea on the Family Fun website.

MY OWN TIP: I experimented early in the week and I froze one of the PB&J's in a snack size bag. It tasted just as fresh the next day when I pulled it from the freezer and let it unthaw. I made all of my PB&J'S the day before, froze them, and then pulled them from the freezer the morning of the party. I then only had the Ham and cheese to make on the day of the party.. Half the work.. Made it much easier!! I plan to use this idea this summer for picnics. :)

The Frog cupcakes were super easy to do ( other than finding the green mint candy). For easy detailed instructions go to Family Fun and type in FROG CUPCAKES.. it is the first one listed. The ladybug cupcakes were all the girls favorites. The ladybugs were ordered from Oriental Trading. I got 12 for just $4.95. I loved the way they were packaged.

I ordered several spring crafts from Oriental trading. My favorite was a butterfly necklace. It came with a shoestring for easy lacing, and nice wood beads for the flowers and butterfly. A great craft for 5-8 year olds. I also ordered velvet butterfly color mini posters, and wooden paddleballs with a spring theme. They were easy to color and fun to play with!!

Maddies top priority for her party this year was a pinata. I found a cute ladybug for $15 at Party City along with the Birthday sign and hanging decorations. They actually have a GARDEN theme Birthday Party. I will say, in the future I plan to go to Dollar Tree First. They had flowers that I hung from all the doorways that were so cute. I bought 2 packs and because I cut them in half had enough for 5 doorways. Not bad for $2. I also found helium balloons there. They were much cheaper than the $9 Butterfly balloon I bought at Party City. I also found a spring theme Birthday Bingo at Dollar Tree. It had 8 boards and for $1 was a fun game to play at the party.

I thought that SPRING was a fun theme for an April Birthday. I will say the kids asked if there was a theme to Maddies party?? Kind of funny. Not sure it could have looked more SPRING LIKE.. I know they were thinking Princess, Hannah Montana, Hello Kitty etc. Funny how kids think. Anyway, if you are looking for something a little different this Spring / Summer I hope these ideas will come in handy!!

One last tip: If you know a couple of older girls that can come help you the day of your party it will make your job soooo much easier. I paid my eldest daughter (10) and one of her friends $5 each to work the party. They still made crafts for themselves, ate, collected candy from the pinata etc but they were helpers and really assisted with the party. Made the job for Grandma and I much easier and it gave the girls great practice in helping with the little ones!! What tips do you have for planning parties??
