We completed the book The Little Prince today by Antoine de Saint Exupery. We began it about 2 weeks ago and along the way we made the characters. Everyone made a Little Prince, everyone made a planet, and then we made the characters that the Little Prince met as he was travelling from asteroid to asteroid. We mounted them on a black posterboard and cut out some little stars and a moon. In the middle we put a definition of responsibility and then listed things that we could do to be more responsible around the house and for our family.
Two weeks ago we also began a CHORE list to go along with being more RESPONSIBLE...
.
THE JOBS INCLUDED
Kitchen Helper
Entry Way Cleaner
Playroom Cleaner
Bathroom Helper
Each chore is done for a week. So far it is going great. Everyone is really doing a great job keeping their room/area clean. The kitchen helper is not only setting the table and helping with dinner but also serving. I really like the idea of the kids serving others. If someone needs a refill on a drink the kitchen helper gets up and serves them more drink. If someone needs a napkin then the kitchen helper for the week is the one to get it. He/She is also responsible for cleanup.
I really love reading a book out loud as a "CLASS". I love the feedback that all the kids give. I especially loved seeing their looks today when they showed their daddy their class project/poster of The Little Prince.
One thing that I didn't see on the poster, but it's hard to read so I might have missed it, was our responsibilty to God as Christians.
