Towns County Beach, Hiawassee GA

The kids and I headed to Towns County Beach in Hiawassee today with Grandma. The beach has been open for 3 summers now and the kids absolutely LOVE it!! It is located right across the street from The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. Entry is FREE and Parking is FREE!! There are 2 large picnic pavilions, a huge playground, restrooms, snack shop, and of course the beach. There are other swings located up in the shaded trees as well as misc. picnic tables.

The water seems pretty clean, and the swimming area is well marked. It does get deep even in the marked area so if you have little ones be sure to have life vest. Parking is limited. My suggestion... arrive early in the day with a well stocked cooler, beach chairs, beach umbrella, plenty of sunscreen and sand toys.

If you have never been to Hiawassee it is a wonderful little town. There are two grocery stores, Mcdonalds, Subway, Zaxbys, DQ, and Hardys. There is a Dollar General to pick up anything you might have forgotten. There are also plenty of little shops to look around in as well as nicer restaurants. If you come for an overnight and want to head out to dinner make sure to go to Enricos. It serves some of the best Italian food ever.

The Greeneteam and I highly reccomend this wonderful little beach. It is a hidden gem here in the mountains of North Georgia.

  1. We have not yet had a chance to go there. It seems every time we are visiting there's just no time. Maybe this year.

  2. Dee: Already in the plans for Saturday AM.. Thought it would be fun if we all took a picnic and got there by 10 or so before it gets crowded. We can Swim for the morning till 12:30 or so then have a picnic and then get out of dodge before it gets to crazy.. We can set up for the 4th that evening after it gets a little cooler!! :) John hasn't been there. I know Kayla has come but not sure about Lisa?? Sound like a plan??
