Delaware's PEACH CRISP RECIPE

The kids and I have started a new Summer /Fall Geography/Cooking curriculum. We are studying the U.S. and, I thought it would be a little more fun if we had a hands on approach to it. When I saw the Cookbook below at the HS FAIR I knew immediately that it was what I wanted. Kind of a "taste buds approach to Geography." Today we made our first recipe honoring the State of Delaware.
EAT YOUR WAY THROUGH THE USA..
by Loree Pettit.
The kids are so excited about cooking and the recipes, that they are sneaking the book to see which state is going to come next. Gotta love that.

Peach Crisp
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup butter
4 cups sliced peaches (fresh is best)
1 T lemon juice
2 T water

1. Combine flour, sugars, salt, and cinnamon; cut in butter with pastry blender or fork until crumbly.
2. Combine peaches, lemon juice, and water. Spoon into an 8 inch square pan.
3. Sprinkle crumb mixture over peaches.
4. Bake at 350* for 1 hour.
Our review: DELICIOUS!! Very rich so start small. :) We topped ours with vanilla ice cream which made it extra yummy. I would start off with a small scoop of the crisp top with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream and enjoy.

  1. We need to find Mr. Jack a red kid's apron - preferrably one with action heroes or the like. I'll work on it ;o)

Looks like a GREAT way to reinforce what they learn in the books about each state. Kinda of like what we did when we were driving to GA and stopped at The Lost Sea.
