" Showing love"

Today I took the kids up to the mountains to celebrate my moms 69th Birthday. I can't begin to tell you how much they love her. Grandmas are just that way I guess. Anyhow, out of the blue at dinner my little one Maddie asked my mom if after dinner we could go see her Grandpa at the cemetary. My kids have never asked to go there before. My father died just a month before Makenna was born so none of my kids ever met him. They often talk about him but have never asked to go to the cemetary.

All during dinner Maddie talked about how she wanted to put flowers on his grave. When we arrived the kids walked up the hill and Maddie was looking around. She was so excited to see a big white flower bush/tree that she could grab some flowers from. She came running back and laid them very nicely by her Grandpas name.

When we got in the car she said " Grandma do you know why I wanted to go to the cemetary to see my Grandpa?" My mom said "NO". Maddie then replied "When I come to see you I give you hugs and kisses to let you know how much I love you and I just wanted to give my grandpa some flowers so that he would know I love him too." Talk about sweet.

I rarely cry anymore when I go to see my dads gravesite. He has been gone almost 10 years and while I miss him terribly I am at peace with everything and rarely do I get emotional. Today when Maddie told my mom her reason for wanting to see her grandpa I started to cry. As I sit and write this I have tears in my eyes. Love how sweet kids can be!! Missing my dad and my daughters Grandpa tonight!!

Photo is not his gravesite. What I would have given to have had a picture of Maddie putting the flowers on his grave.
