One of my friends posted on Facebook this week that she was looking for some fun ideas for picnicking..
Quite a few years ago my sister showed up at my house and said "Hey I saw a cute park down the road and thought we could have a picnic". Instantly I started thinking "oh no what do I have, what can I pack etc." She then said " I stopped at the grocery and the picnic is in my car already". Let me tell you that was the easiest picnic up to that point that I had ever been on. She had gone to the deli and bought sandwiches, pasta salad, a bag of chips, fruit already cut and a gallon of lemonade... VOILA a picnic without all the work.
It is now one of my favorite ways to picnic. Just pick something up take out, or from the grocery. Have your paper plates, forks, cups and napkins and head to someplace fun.
A few years ago we tried take out pizza and the beach.. Talk about a fun evening. Not alot of stress for me and a ton of fun for the kids. This week we tried it again with 8 kids and it worked like a charm. Everyone was happy, especially me and the bulk of the night was spent playing at the beach NOT preparing the picnic!! Let's face it with 8 kids who has time to prepare?? :)
What are some of your favorite picnic ideas?? Please post a comment and share!!
I remember that day!
ReplyDeleteI continue to do picnics the "easy way" - always getting things from the deli or the like. Last year, as summer was winding down I asked my hubby to take a half days vacation.
I went to an Italian deli and put together a smorgasbord of items that all looked yummy. We drove out to wine country, picked up a bottle of local wine and went out to their field alongside the vineyards to have our picnic. So super easy.
I like going to our locally-owned Heinen's grocery store to pick up portable food. They have the best prepared foods/deli. I will pick up grilled salmon for hubby, their Romano chicken for me, grilled asparagus, and other gourmet sides. They also carry sparkling lemonade and I like to pick up a bottle of that.
Another idea - do a picnic with leftovers. Most people have left overs at Easter, Memorial/Labor Day & July 4th.
As you are packing up the left overs, put the food in containers that you can take on a picnic the next day. Super easy & fun!
sounds great! what park/beach is this??
ReplyDeleteTiffany it is West Bank Beach in Cumming off of exit 14. The beach is a little nonexistent right now but still fun.
ReplyDeleteDee..yes remember the day!! The day we found Dee Dee's park!! :) Love the ideas of getting some nicer food from the deli maybe I will plan that for our Anniversary weekend coming up. I think EASY is the way to go other wise you work yourself to death and are exhausted before you go!!
